Seminar on "New Sources of Growth for Penang" (8 Dec 2006)

The focus of the seminar was on exploring the new sources of economic growth and positioning industries in Penang for the new era of high oil prices. Thinking ahead is one of the keys to success. Akio Morita, the founder of Sony Corporation once said "If you survey the public for what they think they need, you will always be behind in this world. You will never catch up unless you think one to ten years in advance and create a market for the items you think the market will accept at that time".

The event was officiated by YAB Tan Sri Dr Koh Tsu Koon, Chief Minister of Penang.

The objectives of this seminar was as follows:-

  1. To explore and identify new growth opportunities in the market place,
  2. To seek ideas on how technology can be translated into new business opportunities,
  3. To draw up strategies to promote sustainable economic growth and job creation,
  4. To build stronger partnerships and nurture successful entrepreneurship for economic growth in Penang.
