SERI Economic Forum 2008: The Petrol Price Hike - How It Affects Us (26 July 2008)

The recent abrupt and dramatic increase in fuel prices by the Federal Government, by the largest quantum ever seen, will have an overwhelming impact on the fabric of Penang’s economy. Numerous concerns as a result of such a move have surfaced, and primarily include that of the ability of the “rakyat” to cope with such an increase, as well as the impact of such a move on various industries which contribute a very significant portion of the State’s economy.

In order to relay economic interpretations of the fuel price increase, as well as to encourage positive discussion pertaining to the socio-economic implications as well as implications to the industry, The Socio-Economic and Environmental Research Institute (SERI) organised the SERI Economic Forum 2008: The Petrol Price Hike – How It Affects Us.

The event was held on 26 July 2008, at Bilik ABC, Dewan Sri Pinang.

Yang Berhormat Prof. Dr. P. Ramasamy, Penang Deputy Chief Minister II officiated the Forum.
