- PPPUE Project - This tripartite project (Government, Civil Society and Private Sector) brings the message of recycling to grassroots communities. Whilst it is hoped that the sale of recyclables would help to generate funds, the ultimate goal is for the communities to look upon recycling not only as a money making venture but also as a social responsibility.
- Water Watch Penang - Water Watch Penang (WWP) is a non-profit organisation set up in November 1997 as part of the Sustainable Penang Initiative under the auspices of the Socio-economic & Environmental Research Institute (SERI) of Penang. WWP's main objective is to create awareness for water conservation amongst the general public, research on water issues, tips on water saving, consultancy on water recylcing and water education in the schools.
- Penang Cares Project - The Penang E-Community Volunteer Centre Portal, or in short, PenangCares Portal, was established in 2002 under the Electronic Community Development Steering Committee (previously the Digital Equity Steering Committee) of the Penang KICT Council, to undertake the task of providing ICT linkage to the community particularly to Community Based Organisations (CBOs) and other civil society organisations.

- BOLD & PACE - There are many young children in Penang with various types of learning difficulties. These children need diagnosis by professionals, special attention and education programmes in schools and, above all, understanding and support from their parents and families. Realizing that there is insufficient assistance and information for parents and teachers of children with learning difficulties, the Bureau on Learning Difficulties (BOLD) was launched in March 1998 with the principle objective of acting as a resource and activities centre to help bring together and facilitate communications between all those interested in learning difficulties faced by young children.
- arts-ED - Arts-ED (Arts Education Programmes for Young People) offers arts programmes for young people aged 10-20 through short courses and workshops in music, dance and visual arts. It also involves young people in research and publications in the field of heritage arts.
- Help4u - Help 4 u is an online helpline to help in the learning related issues & problems of students who are in secondary school, college or university.
- UNDP-Solid Waste Management Project - This project was jointly funded by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and the Economic Planning Unit (EPU) and was commissioned to the Socio-Economic and Environmental Research Institute (SERI) and PE Research Sdn Bhd (PE). It aimed at establishing a workable and functioning solid waste management structure in Penang, to establish a strucutred and institutionalised SWM model in Penang, to identify alternatives to mass collection and disposal theough qualitative reearch, and to exude capacity building and knowledge management on the process of creating and establishing an integrated sustainable waste management model based on the Penang experience.
